Ceramic glue: If it’s broke fix it!

Artificial Content Title -- to be hidden

Fixing cracks in pottery is simple with the right ceramic glue. We’ll show you how! Grab that broken ceramic pot, and read along while we tell you all you need to know about ceramic adhesives.

What’s important when choosing ceramic glue

The wide variety of super glues on the market makes it a bit hard to select a product ideally suited for ceramics. Here are a couple things to keep in mind before purchasing a ceramic glue.

The best adhesives for ceramic are multifunctional, and can bond ceramic to a number of different materials such as wood, leather, some plastics, glass, mirror, metals, and more.

Under the glossy exterior, ceramic is a porous material – so the glue has to adhere to porous surfaces. If you have gaps of missing ceramic, then you need a specialized ceramic glue that has gap filling properties. Fixing ceramics intended for food or drinks? In that case it’s important to select a food safe ceramic glue.

How to use ceramic adhesive

Gluing together broken ceramic is simple, here’s how to do it.

  1. Pre fit broken pieces to make sure you have all the parts.
  2. Apply a thin layer of glue on both sides of the broken ceramic.
  3. Precisely press the pieces together in place, quickly adjusting the pieces if necessary.
  4. Hold the pieces together to allow the glue to grab. If necessary, secure the pieces to allow for cure time to be reached.
  5. Scrape away any excess dried glue after fully cured.
