In this project, Sean Collinsgru from Premier Outdoor Living remodels the outdoor spaces of an old house. Sean demonstrates the best glue for plastic and wood. The project involves reinventing three different exterior projects, which demonstrate the versatile nature of the PL Premium Max construction adhesive.
In this project, Sean Collinsgru from Premier Outdoor Living swiftly handles three exterior projects within the compound of an old house using an all-purpose glue. He started with the veneer cladding of a wall the team had built. He then completed a pergola before ending the day by building an access door to a deck. All three outdoor projects greatly improved the home's appearance.
In the first phase, Sean Collinsgru clads a modern stone veneer on a privacy wall he had built. He uses the Loctite PL Premium Max construction adhesive to secure the veneer to the wall and then applies a substantial amount of adhesive to ensure the stone veneer holds well. Sometimes, water can get behind the stones. However, adding more adhesive creates a drainage path for the water over the weather-resistant stone barrier.
While constructing the stone veneer, a section had to be cut from the top to give way for a flange system. Fitting back the pieces that were cut from the top required the use of an all-purpose glue. Sean sticks some of the glue on the wall and then carefully attaches the stone pieces to seal the top of the privacy wall. While all this is done outdoors, the plastic super glue holds pretty well and resists different weather conditions.
This is the first project demonstrating the different uses of the PL Premium Max construction adhesive in exterior spaces. The results are amazing.
Sean embarks on the second project, finishing up a pergola behind the house. Using PL Premium Max construction adhesive, he puts a nice cap on the end of the top triple-ply beam.
Afterward, Sean puts a couple of screws in the middle of the joint to hold it till the construction adhesive cures. One of the benefits of using glue for wood instead of fasteners is that the fasteners can easily cause splitting while the glue holds the wood firmly without the risk of splitting. Again, less fasteners and screws make your work look neat. After all, we strive to have fewer screws exposed when handling different projects.
The all-purpose glue helps keep out water, frost, and ice, preventing these elements from building up inside the joints. It also keeps the wooden structures looking good for a long time.
The final phase of this project entails building an access door underneath the deck. Sean builds a pressure-treated frame with lock joints. He uses the Loctite PL Premium Max construction adhesive to lock the corners and ensure the frame stays square.
The adhesive dries clear, bonds exceptionally well, and is easy to clean up. It is also water-resistant, perfect for projects exposed to moisture or continuous water exposure. Upon joining the joints, Sean adds fasteners to hold it together until the adhesive dries.
One major benefit of using the PL premium construction adhesive is that it fills all the voids when joined to two pieces of wood. It almost bonds perfectly to look like a single piece. Any excess glue that squeezes out can be removed and won’t affect the accuracy of the fitting in your construction project.
After he’s done with the square frame, Sean crawls underneath the deck, attaches the frame to the skirting, and uses a track saw to cut out the deck boards that are already attached to a frame. And that’s it — he’s created an access door to the deck!
