Looking for an industrial epoxy adhesive that’s strong enough to handle an engine repair or build a house? We’ve got the guide on heavy-duty epoxies for your home, appliances, auto, and other machinery. Our guide will take you through what you need for a successful application, and how to do it.
Industrial epoxy glues are typically used for either mechanical applications or construction work. No matter what the use, the basic preparation and tools are the same. Here’s what you need.
- Epoxy resin and hardener
- Mixing cup, can or bucket
- Mix/application stick – a paint stick or tongue depressor
- Gloves
- Protective covering – for the floor or table you’re working on
- Bristle brush – if sealing
Here’s how to bond two surfaces using industrial strength epoxy.
- For optimal adhesion, roughen up smooth surfaces before applying adhesive.
- Clean and dry all surfaces before mixing the components.
- Squeeze out equal parts of resin and hardener onto a clean disposable surface. A cup is recommended, as the mixture can be runny. If the job is bigger, work in batches, only preparing as much epoxy as you’ll be able to use within 3-5 minutes.
- With a disposable stick, mix the resin and hardener until the colors are uniform and it’s completely blended.
- Apply a small amount of epoxy to both surfaces you’re bonding and fit pieces together.
- Excess uncured adhesive can be wiped away quickly with acetone and a disposable cloth.
- Press and hold in place. You may have to support the bond until it sets. Set times vary.
