For DIY Christmas gifts sure to bring a smile, make waterless snow globes! This Christmas present DIY project is a simple and affordable way to gift this holiday season. We’ll explain the materials you need and how to create these fun miniature wonderlands.
Snow globes are a simple and fun Christmas present craft idea. These mini winter wonderlands come together in no time, can be personalized to fit any receiver and can be made from a variety of different types of glasses.
Here’s what you need to create a snow globe DIY Christmas gift….
- Glass of choice – stemless and stemmed wine glasses work especially well.
- Glue – Loctite Super Glue Ultra Gel Control.
- Base for the snow globe – A simple piece of cardboard will do. For a fancier look, use another material like decorative wood or a mirror.
- Fake snow
- Holiday accents of choice: Small decorative Christmas trees, sleds, tiny presents, Santa figurines, or other holiday themed accents. Pictures of loved ones, or even sprigs of holly and cinnamon make for a nature inspired snow globe.
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Paint or markers – to decorate the base of the snow globe.
Optional materials:
- Spray adhesive – Loctite Craft Spray
- Glitter
- Craft jewels, ribbon or trim
- Candle – if using a stemmed wine glass, an accent candle fits nicely on the bottom of the base.
After gathering your snow globe materials, take a moment to plan the look and pre-arrange the accent pieces. If you wish to add extra sparkle to your tiny decorations, apply glitter with spray adhesive and set aside to dry.
Once all your accents are prepped and decorated, here’s how to create this Christmas present arts and craft…
- If cutting a cardboard base: Flip the glass, top side down on top of the cardboard.
- Trace around the rim of the glass. Remove the glass and cut out the base of the cardboard with scissors.
- Paint or color the base to your preference, leave to dry if necessary.
- Position and glue all accent pieces onto the base.
- Tip! If adding pictures of loved ones… cut out the photo, leaving a small amount of excess at the bottom. Fold the picture at the bottom creating a lip, add adhesive to the bottom of the lip and press into place on the base. The picture should stand straight up in the glass dome.
- Fill the glass with the desired amount of fake snow, don’t add too much snow or your decorative accents will be lost in a snow storm!
- Using the glue, line the base or rim of the glass with glue.
- Flip the glass over, and press it onto the base.
- Leave the snow globe to dry.
- Finish decorating the outside of the globe by gluing ribbon or jewels around the base. Add candles to the top of the glass bottom or tie ribbons to the stem for added effect.
