Styrofoam crafts ideas: You’ll never run out of possibilities

Styrofoam has nearly endless potential for creating crafts, decorations, and artwork for the home. Best of all, it is very easy to work with and quite inexpensive. In fact, you can often get Styrofoam pieces free as it is used as packaging material for many products. Rather than throw it away, recycle some of it into Styrofoam block crafts, Styrofoam ball crafts, and many more.

A quick online search will bring up many ideas and techniques you can use for crafting with Styrofoam. You can copy and print shapes and designs and then transfer them onto the Styrofoam for cutting, carving, or decorating. But don’t be limited by what you find on the internet or in craft books. Use your imagination and create some really beautiful one-of-a-kind works of art.

Crafting with Styrofoam: The perfect medium for many projects

The great thing about Styrofoam is that it is so easy to use. Cut it to whatever shape you need and cover it with almost any type of material. With the right glue, any number of things can be joined to it, pins and sharp items readily stick into Styrofoam, and it can even be painted.

Some common ways to decorate Styrofoam are as follows:

  • Covering Styrofoam balls with flowers, leaves, or moss. The materials can be stuck into the Styrofoam or glued on. Set these creations in a pot or vase to simulate a plant.
  • You can also glue beads, glass balls, sequins, or other decorative materials directly to the Styrofoam. The finished piece can then be placed on a shelf or stand or suspended from the ceiling.
  • Try making crafts with Styrofoam sheets by covering the Styrofoam with an attractive piece of cloth. Staple or glue the cloth to the back of the Styrofoam to keep it tightly stretched. You can then keep your earrings, lapel pins, or anything else with a sharp point on this sheet both for storage and display. Hint: dress up the edge with a fancy frill or a border of wood or other material.
  • You can even paint directly on the Styrofoam to create any type of design you can imagine.
  • Crafts with Styrofoam egg cartons and cups are great to build towers, houses, and more as presents for children.

Crafts made with Styrofoam shapes: Putting it all together

As you can see, you’ll never run out of ideas for crafting with Styrofoam. You only need the most basic of supplies to get started. Besides the Styrofoam, you will need a pencil or marker, scissors or a knife, your decorative materials (cloth, beads, etc.), and glue.
